Borrowing Information

Any Canton resident age 5 or older may obtain a library card by filling out a short application form at the library. Click here for more details about getting a library card.

Canton Public Library materials circulate as follows:

Material: New Adult Fiction
Loan period: 2 weeks
Borrowing limit: Unlimited
Fine: 15 cents/day


Material: Quick Reads
Loan period: 1 week
Borrowing limit: 1 per card
Fine: $1/day


Material: DVDs
Loan period: 1 week
Borrowing limit: Unlimited
Fine: 15 cents/day


Material: Blu-Ray discs
Loan period: 1 week
Borrowing limit: Unlimited
Fine: 15 cents/day


Material: Museum/cultural site passes
Loan period: 3 days
Borrowing limit: 1 per site per family, maximum of 2 passes at the same time (MUST be checked out on an adult library card)
Fine: $5/day


Material: Wii games
Loan period: 1 week
Borrowing limit: Unlimited (MUST be checked out on an adult library card)
Fine: $1/day


Material: All other material
Loan period: 3 weeks
Borrowing limit: Unlimited
Fine: 15 cents/day


Borrowers must be 18 years of age or older in order to check out museum/cultural site passes and Wii games.

Most materials may be renewed once. Renewals can be made in person, by telephone, or online through our website. Items on hold for other patrons, admission passes to museums and cultural sites, Quick Read books, and Wii games cannot be renewed. Items obtained through the interlibrary loan system may or may not be renewable, depending on the owning library’s policies.

To renew items online:

  1. Click on the link below.
  2. Select Login in the upper right hand corner.
  3. Type in your last name and the barcode located on your library card. Click Submit Query.
  4. You’ll be back at the search screen. Go back to the upper right hand corner and click your name.

When you are signed into your account, you also can view the full list of items checked out on your card, their due dates, and any fines or fees charged against your card.
