Sales in the Library Policy

The sale of items or services inside the Canton Public Library by staff members will be limited to fundraising activities directly related to the library or to the Friends of the Canton Public Library.

At the discretion of the Library Board of Trustees and when in the public interest, the library may allow occasional fundraising or sales by other not-for-profit and/or civic and community groups. However, such fundraising or sales will be restricted to designated areas of the building and will not be permitted in any space where they would interfere with the pursuit of normal library business by staff or patrons.

The library does not participate in the sale of exhibited items that can be purchased. If the exhibitor wishes, a price list will be made available at the Circulation Desk, along with the exhibitor’s name and contact information. Any sales are then to be conducted between the exhibitor and the purchaser directly without any further involvement by the library.

While inside the Canton Public Library, patrons may not be approached and asked to participate in any fundraising or sales event unless such activity is directly related to the library or to the Friends of the Canton Public Library. In such cases, requests may be made but only in a general way to a group attending a library-sponsored program.
