Bulletin Board Postings Policy

Bulletin Board postings and Free-Distribution Materials Policy

As part of its mission to inform and educate the residents of Canton, the Canton Public Library provides space for bulletin board postings and free-distribution materials. These items will be limited to those of a civic, cultural, educational, and/or recreational nature generated by non-profit groups and organizations.  The presence of these items in the library does not indicate the library’s endorsement of the issuers or the information.

The library does not post or distribute personal or for-profit materials. The library reserves the right to reject items that it considers inappropriate.

Bulletin board postings and free-distribution materials will be placed in the library at the discretion of the Library Director based on available space, timing of the event or issue, and length of time the library has displayed them.

Bulletin Board Postings

The library provides one or more public bulletin boards on which to post flyers, notices, and posters that are up-to-date and that conform to the guidelines specified above. These bulletin boards are so marked.

All materials to be posted on the public bulletin board(s) must be initialed and dated by the Library Director or by his/her designee to indicate permission to post. Items lacking such permission will be removed. Bulletin board postings will be put up and taken down by library staff only.

There are other bulletin boards within the library that are reserved for library use only. These are so marked.

Free-Distribution Materials

The library provides space to display free-distribution materials and hand-outs that are up-to-date and that conform to the guidelines specified above. This includes multiple copies of free local or regional newspapers or magazines of an objective or general nature. Free-distribution materials will be put out and removed by library staff only.
