The Nutmeg Book Award encourages children in grades 2-12 to read quality literature and to choose their favorite from a list of ten-fifteen (committee-nominated) titles in each of four age groups. Starting in May, students read and, 11 months later, vote on their favorites.
The Nutmeg Book Club is a perfect choice for students, Grades 4 and up, who want to read their way through the 2022 Award Nominees. Each month we will select a book (or two) from each category. Read one or more of the selections and join us to discuss on Zoom. Copies of all books are available at the library in both the Children and Teen sections. All participants will have an opportunity to earn their Nutmeg Brag Tags during this program. This month’s selections are:
Elementary: The Proudest Blue
Seeds Move
Intermediate: Planet Earth is Blue
Middle: Marcus Vega Doesn’t Speak Spanish
Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation
High: The Field Guide to the North American Teenager
Pick up book copies at the library, and then read the book(s) before attending the discussion. Registration is required to receive Zoom information, either online on the Upcoming Programs listing, or by phone; free. Not yet in grade 4 but still want to attend? Talk to Ms. Sarah, Ms. Heather, or Meghan for special permission. For information or to register: call (860) 693-5800, email mglasgow@townofcantonct.org, or visit www.cantonpubliclibrary.org.
Inclement weather policy: If Canton schools or afterschool activities are cancelled for weather-related reasons, so too are events for teens and children at the Canton Public Library. The library is often still open, please contact us with questions or concerns at 860.693.5800.
