Join us to find your inner peace through mindful art. Each week we will focus on a different project. We will explore abstract watercolor gardens, and intricately drawn Mandala designs, get meditative with some zen doodles, and paint our favorite place to be… Sign up for one or all of our Mindful Art Workshops. All Supplies are provided. For teens and tweens entering grades 5 and up. Registration is required. Space is limited.
We will start each class with a group discussion and brainstorming about the day’s project then through independent study, students are encouraged to try mastering basic skills leading to developing a personal style. Through creative thinking and how to explore the imagination, we learn the value of determination, taking a risk, and dedication to a task at hand. Student artists learn problem-solving skills through project design and execution and how to take constructive criticism. This helps to develop confidence and accountability, non-verbal communication skills, and how to focus as well as collaborating and sharing responsibilities. All important in finding your voice!
This program is led by Kate McAllister. With over 30 years of creative study and practice, award-winning Collinsville artist Kate McAllister continues to blend multiple styles, mediums, and techniques to create an individualistic body of work. From intricate pen drawings and paper cuttings, tiny abstract watercolors, large-scale photorealistic landscapes, murals, and woodwork, each piece tells a story through color, direction, and balance. Her extensive portfolio is added to almost daily and Kate is always seeking the next inspiring challenge. River City Art has also helped create a renewed daily perspective, by integrating after-school art classes into time in the studio, it inspires a constantly evolving style. Being reminded daily of the significance of the values and skills it takes to create a single piece of fine art.
