Library Hours Updates
In consultation with Town of Canton leadership and the Farmington Valley Health District, we have made the decision to close the Canton Public Library to the public effective Monday, March 16, 2020. The library will remain closed until Canton Public Schools reopen.
We do not make this decision lightly. We are committed to serving our community even in the most difficult of situations, but at this time the best thing we can do for you is to close our doors and do our part to help slow the community transmission of COVID-19.
Staff will still be working while the library is closed and will be available by email. While the bookdrop will remain open and you can return items, we encourage you to keep any library items you have until we reopen. No late fines will be assessed during the time that we are closed. All in-person programs will be canceled.
Our virtual services are still available to you from home, including downloads of ebooks, audiobooks, digital magazines, and more through Overdrive, RBDigital , and Hoopla, plus our online databases are available for research 24/7.
Please check our website at www.cantonpubliclibrary.org or our Facebook page at facebook.com/cantonlibraryct for the most up-to-date information on our services. Please also follow the Town of Canton at www.townofcantonct.org and facebook.com/CantonCT for broader community announcements.
We encourage you to follow all guidelines to keep yourselves and your community healthy: wash your hands frequently and thoroughly; stay home when you are sick except to get medical care; clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces and objects; maintain a 3-6 foot distance from other people when out in public; and keep abreast of current federal, state, and local guidelines from the CDC (cdc.gov), the Connecticut Department of Public Health (ct.gov/coronavirus), and the Farmington Valley Health District (www.fvhd.org).
This situation is a challenge for all of us. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we navigate through this unprecedented time, and we look forward to seeing you all again once we are able to reopen.
